Who says you have to have your feet firmly on the ground in theatreland? As part of this year’s apocalyptic season – The F Word: Fear, Faith and Fundamentalism – National Youth Theatre are looking for 10 performers who are strong in movement, dance or gymnastics, and who would like the opportunity to train with renowned aerial theatre company Scarabeus and perform in one of NYT’s most visually and physically ambitious projects this year: SLICK.
As the second project in NYT’s environmental trilogy of eco-tainment, SLICK is a 60-minute scripted spectacle of site-specific theatre taking place in and around one of the UK’s most thrilling urban settings – Sheffield’s Park Hill Estate.
Inspired by the global waste epidemic, climate change and marine pollution and with a cast of 250 to 300 journeying around this iconic concrete jungle, SLICK will be as visually explosive as it is theatrically responsive to the site and message.
Ten chosen performers will workshop and train with Scarabeus for two days in London before travelling up to Sheffield at the end of August to perform in SLICK.
This is the perfect opportunity for performers who are passionate and interested in developing their skills in aerial theatre and working on large scale site-specific/site responsive, outdoor projects.
