Description

This is the brief page for Press Play Bristol. Yorkshire will be opening soon and Birmingham and Leicester are now closed.

National Youth Theatre’s artistic vision is to produce topical work that immediately responds to the world in which young people live. With this in mind, we are running Press Play across the UK – a project in which four regional teams of young theatre makers will be tasked with producing, rehearsing and performing a brand new play, urgently responding to the most recent local, national and international news.

This unique opportunity to challenge your theatre-making skills and collaborate to create a play from scratch will take place in four regions around the UK. Working with the Tobacco Factory in Bristol, the National Youth Theatre and IdeasTap are excited to be bringing Press Play to the South West. We are looking for emerging artists who are excited by collaboration, performance and the challenge of taking on roles they’ve not done before. Each group will be mentored by NYT Associate Artists.

Under the guidance of National Youth Theatre and the local venue, successful applicants will also receive an invitation to an additional day of workshops, including auditions skills and guidance in developing a successful CV.

The brief is open to local young people aged 16 to 25 who are looking for pathways into creative industries, networking opportunities and who wish to exercise their creativity. Travel and accommodation costs will not be provided, and entrants must therefore be living, working or studying in the local region.

In each region, we are looking for 15 generous and motivated young theatre makers. Over the duration of the project, you will be expected to take on different roles based on the work that emerges over the four days, and you will all perform the work created in a final showing.

To apply for Press Play – Bristol, you need to be available for the following dates:

  • Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March
  • Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 March
  • Saturday 24 March

To apply, please click How to Respond.

This brief closes on Wednesday 8 February 2012 and is open to IdeasTap members aged 16 to 25 who are based in the UK. This opportunity is open to both members and non-members of the National Youth Theatre. If you have technical queries, please email info@ideastap.com.

Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.

  • Hi Kelly_lou_smith - A large aspect of this project will be the production and writing of the piece you will perform. As the performance is a group effort, the roles and how involved each member is will be decided by the entire group. Hope that helps!

  • Hi, my application for this is all ready to go. I want to apply as a Producer / Writer but having re-read the brief, do all participants have to perform in the piece as well? As I'm really not a performer but really, really want to get involved. May still apply if this is the case but would be good to know beforehand. Thanks!

  • Hi Marta - that's fine, we have your application.
Hi dmwhylie - You can add any CV you like - anything that gives us a sense of what you've been up to in your local area and further afield.
