Judging

Martin Bright - CEO, the Creative Society

Description

The Creative Society is offering two IdeasTap members the opportunity to play a part in the design of a new book, based on interviews with key business figures from the Jazz FM radio programme Jazz Shapers. Successful applicants will receive a bursary of £1,050 for 14 days work between October and December 2014. They will also work alongside skilled professionals who will mentor and advise them throughout the process.

The winner of this brief should have an interest in literature and music, as well as demonstrable design skills. They should be available two days a week (Wednesday and Thursday) for a period of six weeks, starting on the week of November 3 (see exact dates below). They will be working at the Creative Society’s HQ at Somerset House.

We are looking for original creative thinkers with great attention to detail. The winning applications will demonstrate originality, ingenuity, and a capacity to deliver beautiful, polished and professional designs. Candidates should show that they have carried out in-depth research about Jazz Shapers, Mishcon de Reya and The Creative Society. Their design ideas should consider literature, music, and design.

The winning designs will:

  • Be eye-catching
  • Use interview text inventively
  • Connect text and design
  • Highlight the interviews’ themes

Candidates should also be able to articulate how this opportunity will help them build their professional portfolio, and how it is relevant to their career goals.

About The Shapers Project

Jazz FM’s Jazz Shapers show plays music from the best artists shaping the world of jazz, soul and blues, and features interviews with people from the world of business.

Interviewees come from a wide variety of backgrounds, from venture capital to theatre and skincare, and have included Jude Kelly, Jo Malone, and Paul Smith, among others. All the programme’s interviews can be accessed for free on iTunes.

The Creative Society has transcribed the interviews that the winners will be turning into a striking book, to be distributed to the project sponsor’s partners, Mishcon de Reya.

The Creative Society is an arts employment charity helping thousands of young people get into jobs in the creative and cultural industries, and we particularly encourage applications from unemployed or self-employed people.
