DANCE:FILM 11 – Call for Submissions

Description

DANCE:FILM is Scotland’s dance film festival: a celebration of dance and film in all its forms, with screenings, events, workshops and installations taking place in Edinburgh from 12 to 19 November.

This year, the festival is working with IdeasTap to present a programme of dance films handpicked from our members entries, accompanied by a panel event/workshop involving the filmmakers from the selected films, industry professionals and filmmaking and dance students from Edinburgh.

For the chance to take part, enter with a short dance film. We are looking for entries in the following categories:

Dance for Camera – where dance/movement is specifically choreographed for the camera
Dance with Camera – where the camera and the filmic/video medium itself plays an integral role in the dance/movement
Is it Dance – the more experimental films involving movement and dance that challenge the notion of dance and choreography
Dance documentaries

I am a student of the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) in Malaysia, where I am in my final year. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Choreography. I come from a small town Kuala Terengganu in the east coast of Malaysia from a very humble background. In these few years at ASWARA, I have developed a passion of using film and multi-media in my choreography. There is no one else of my age-group in Malaysia who is pursuing this field of study. I believe that by marrying film and dance, I am able to reach a wider audience and send messages about society. In contemporary dance, it is important to be relevant to the various situations in my country and in the world. In order to be more effective and powerful, I need to expand my horizons and world experience.
