Description

Imagine having your photographs reviewed by Magnum photographer Alec Soth.

Imagine those photographs then being showcased on IdeasTap for a month and viewed by thousands of visitors, including senior members of Magnum staff...

And just imagine receiving personal feedback and career advice from your Magnum judge...

Well, stop dreaming, because that is exactly what we’re offering.

Continuing Magnum’s commitment to emerging photographers, the Magnum Showcase is an opportunity for IdeasTap members to have a recent body of work reviewed by a Magnum photographer or senior staff member, showcased on IdeasTap’s website and followed up by some fantastic feedback and advice for the development of your work from the Magnum judge.

All you need to do is upload a strong, concise edit of 10 to 20 images on a theme, along with 100 words explaining your project.

So, what is this month’s theme, we hear you ask?

This month’s theme is ROAD TRIP, inspired by the Postcards from America project instigated by Alec Soth and his Magnum colleagues. The brief can be responded to literally or playfully, from a local 15-minute drive to a six-month cross-country trip. For inspiration, visit the Postcards from America exhibition at the Magnum Print Room – at 63 Gee Street, London EC1V 3RS – or the Tumblr site.

Alec Soth’s work is rooted in the distinctly American tradition of ‘on-the-road photography’ developed by Walker Evans, Robert Frank and Stephen Shore. He has received fellowships from the McKnight, Bush, and Jerome Foundations and was the recipient of the 2003 Santa Fe Prize for Photography. His photographs are represented in major public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Walker Art Center. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 Whitney Biennial and a career survey at the Jeu de Paume in 2008. Alec Soth became a nominee of Magnum Photos in 2004 and a full member in 2008.
