Description

The judging panel are very pleased to announce that the company WE BUY GOLD have won the 2009 Old Vic New Voices Theatre 503 Award, engineered by IdeasTap with their imaginative and stirring piece 'Inches Away'(working title). We finally reached a decision after weeks of script reading, tea drinking, heated debate, re-reading of scripts, devised showings, desperate discussion and biscuit eating!

WE BUY GOLD, made up of senior members, Tom McCall and Nick Blood, and a rotating group of performers are a dynamic physical ensemble. Taking inspiration from the Greek chorus and Jaques LeCoq, the company explore challenging and sensitive issues with real energy and originality. Their piece focuses on the lives of individuals and asks what it means to be on the margins of society. If one is alone, what keeps you company?

We will be looking for a director to work collaboratively with WE BUY GOLD on this project. Keep your eyes peeled for further announcements for this fantastic opportunity.

We are also delighted to announce our runners up - Bethan Marlow's 'Get Over It?' and Cat Jones' 'Rendered'. Both submissions are deftly written and tackle challenging and fearless topics with bravery and maturity. Both writers show extraordinary talent and promise and all at The Old Vic and Theatre 503 pass on their warmest congratulations.

We will be staging rehearsed readings for 'Get Over It?'and 'Rendered' in March. Keep checking out IdeasTap for more details on how to attend.
Last but by no means least, a huge thank you to all of you who entered the competition. We really were amazed at the high standard of submissions and totally inspired by your work. Don't forgot to keep checking the site for opportunities to become involved in 'Inches Apart' (working title) - it would be great to have you on board.

“We’re thrilled to be launching this year’s Old Vic New Voices Theatre503 Award with the IdeasTap. Kevin Spacey, Artistic Director, The Old Vic Theatre

  • Hi
For everyone who was unsuccessful with their script for Theartre503, The Old Vic have just launched a new brief - Script Doctor.
‘Script Doctor.’ will give all the writers who submitted their play to the Old Vic New Voices 503 Theatre Award the opportunity to win a 20 minute 1 to 1 session with the ‘Script Doctor’.
Our resident ‘Script Doctor’ will explain the rules that are followed by professional writers when presenting a script outline or script.
However as we are a community of learning artists here on Ideas Tap, we will require the winners of ‘Script Doctor.’ to share the lessons learned during their 1 to 1 session.
We are offering a maximum of 10 writers this 1 to 1 evaluation session with the ‘Script Doctor’. All 1 to 1 evaluation sessions will be filmed and edited into highlights and posted on Ideas Tap. The videos will be accompanied by a before and after script outline and any notes made by the ‘Script Doctor’.

    Good luck!

  • Apologies to everyone who wanted to view the shortlist this weekend. Unfortunately, due to a variety of factors, including the high volume and quality of all the submissions, we have had to delay the announcement of the shortlist till later this week. Obviously we will notify all members as soon as this happens.

  • Has anyone had success in accessing the Short List link at the top? It seems as though many of us are encountering a Private - Access Denied page. Can someone who has access post the short list in this space?

  • Hey Lucy,
You’re not the only one with that problem. And I think John Bulleid (comment under yours, above my last one) may be having the same.

  • Once the submissions are shortlisted (we are looking for approximately 10 scripts), the judging panel will re-read each of those plays. They will then meet to decide on the winning script and 2 runners-up. The shortlisted writers will be invited to be part of a dramaturgical workshop. The 2 runners-up will take part in a script workshop day, with actors and a director. The winning script will obviously proceed to full production, with dramaturgical support.
Hope that makes sense. Feel free to post any further questions about the award - and remember that our video blogs will give you an insight into the process.
