Description

This is a paid opportunity for an illustrator/graphic designer to work on a large-scale creative engagement project.

The Lowry is looking for one IdeasTap member to work alongside a team of theatre practitioners, storytellers and writers to illustrate, format and design a children’s storybook. The book is made in collaboration with young parents in Salford.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Illustrate and design children’s story book to be published
  • Work alongside a team of creative professionals from a range of art forms
  • Gain experience of working with children and young people
  • Work on a professional publication from start to finish in a supportive, collaborative environment
  • Expand professional networks regionally and nationally

The successful application will receive a payment of £1,000. For this, they will be required to:

  • Provide full colour illustrations for the book that respond  creatively and positively to the ideas of the project participants and creative professionals in the team, bringing their ideas of characters and locations to life
  • Supply artwork revisions as required in the drafting process
  • Undertake the graphic design and formatting of the book
  • Supply high-resolution print-ready design files for any size publication, and liaise with printers
  • Include all expenses

Not only is this a great chance for you to showcase your illustration talents, you will also be contributing to a great cause. The book will be published in autumn 2014 and all profits will go to support The Lowry’s work with vulnerable children and young people in Salford.

The illustrator should be able to work effectively with young people and creative professionals and be willing to revise artwork after input from the team..

The successful candidate will be responsible for liaising with printers to ensure that the quality of the printed book is of a high, professional quality suitable for publication.

In addition, the winner will be expected to attend up to three planning and consultation sessions at The Lowry with young people on the project and with creative colleagues. The purpose of these sessions is to allow the brief-winning illustrator the chance to hear and respond to ideas from project participants and creative staff. IdeasTap will contribute travel expenses of up to £100 for each of these sessions

This brief closes on Monday 17 March 2014 at 5pm and is open to IdeasTap members aged 18 to 30. If you have any technical queries, please visit the Help Centre. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.
