Judging

The IdeasTap editorial team.

Description

You’re a filmmaker or a film writer. You love documentaries. You're good with words. And you're around between 17 and 22 of June.

Would you like to report for IdeasMag from Open City Docs Fest?

Open City Docs Fest showcases some of the world’s best documentaries, along with masterclasses, workshops and panel events with industry experts and renowned directors. Based at UCL and working with partners across London, the UK and internationally, the festival aims to explore and expand ideas of what documentary can be and do.

To apply, tell us in 100 words about your most memorable cinema experience – this could be anything from a film that inspired you to hearing a director speak about their work. To support your application please upload two clearly labelled writing examples to your IdeasTap portfolio. They don’t have to be professionally published articles; they can be from a personal blog.

If successful, you’ll get a festival pass so it’s totally up to you which events and screenings you’d like to attend. The pass covers entry to all of Open City Doc Fest’s Bloomsbury venues (this excludes external venues – ICA and Picturehouses). Your 500-word report about the festival will need to be filed by 9am on Wednesday 25 June.

Please note: This brief is aimed at filmmakers or film writers who are starting out, not experienced journalists. The winner will need to be based locally or able to fund their own trip to London.

This brief closes on Thursday 12 June 2014 at 5pm and is open to IdeasTap members aged 18 and above. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.
