IdeasTap Graduate Awards recognise the high standard of work being produced by UK-based graduates each year. Working with the industry, we've come up with a package of support to help graduates get a foot in the door.

The award has four categories:

  • Graphics and illustration

  • Product and furniture
  • Theatre design (set or costume)

Designers graduating in 2013 and 2014 are invited to submit their completed final major projects to be considered for the award.

The prizes

12 finalists (three from each category) will each receive

  • Two career mentoring sessions with a relevant industry mentor (Patricia van den Akker from The Design Trust, acclaimed theatre designer Joanna Scotcher or appropriate staff member from onezotzero)
  • Free exhibition space on an IdeasTap stand at Designersblock during London Design Festival (September 2014).

Third prize for each category

  • One winner from each category will receive £250 prize money.

Second prize overall

  • One winner from each category will receive £500 prize money.

First prize overall

  • One overall winner from each category will also receive £1,000 prize money.

  • Hello,
I'm wanting to apply for the Product/Furniture category as I am a textile designer but have designed the fabrics to be sold as a product alongside wallpapers. I have selected the product option at the top of the application form but at the bottom of the form it asks you the same question again but without the product/furniture option. Is this just to define your work a bit more or should I select the 3D option to keep it the same? My work is very illustrative and digital so should I select a different option at the bottom?
    Thanks,
    Natalie

    • Product/ furniture design would equate to 3D design - if you've selected product in the top option, please select the corresponding one below.
You can describe your project in the application form and of course upload designs/ drawings/ images in your IdeasTap portfolio.
      Thanks!

  • Hi - I'll be submitting for theatre design - Because of the site specific / speculative nature of my project I've got a large PDF image that consolidates storyboard & site information - Is it ok to upload this to IdesTap portfolio as a smaller image and include a link to an online version of the PDF image?

  • Hi, I have just graduated a Theatre Design course and wanted to apply, but on my course we didn't have a 'Final Major Project'. The project I am most proud of is a puppetry project I recently completed, but this is neither specifically Set or Costume. Can I submit this or would an earlier costume project be more suitable? Thanks

    • Hi Erika, we can see a couple of items in your portfolio - all uploaded content, when published or unpublished, should be held there.
Have you tried re-uploading (perhaps try another web browser)?
      Thanks!

    • Hi Billie, it depends what type/level of course you took - it must be a higher education course (undergraduate/ postgrad degree or equivalent).

      Thanks!

      Thanks!

    • I was under the impression it was equivalent to an HND. I think it will more depend on how ideastap choose to define it.

  • Hi
I have created large floor cushions as my final piece, but i regard myself as a surface pattern designer, rather than a maker, is illustration the right category for this? Thanks

      • It's entirely up to you and how you would categorise your work (or perhaps how your degree would have categorised it).

        Thanks!

  • Hi,

I've entered my work as £D design but I want to change it over to illustration/graphics. As I thought 3D was a sub category within Illustration. Can I change it over?
