Description

Our BFFs at mac birmingham are hosting a three-day residency with dance company RKDC. If you’re a Midlands-based emerging practitioner with an interest in dance and digital work, you’ll want to get involved...

The course will take place at mac birmingham from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 October, 10am to 3.30pm. Up to 15 IdeasTap members will be invited to take part. Please note that although the Midlands is a priority, mac birmingham will accept applications from across the country.

The residency will be led by choreographer Rosie Kay, but you will also get the chance to learn at the hand of RKDC’s key video design collaborator Louis Price.

Over the three days, you will learn about Rosie’s methods and practice, and see the skills required to be a successful practitioner.

Each day will be broken down into sessions, covering the following topics:

  • Finding your subject matter and defining your passion
  • Research methods and good practice
  • Collaboration – what, who and why? And how collaboration can deepen your work
  • Creating content for digital work
  • Finding the right partners to support your development
  • Getting your work out there, finding producers
  • Technical needs
  • Business models, budgeting and selling your ideas

On the final day there will be a “speed dating” networking session with fellow professionals working in the creative sector.

Following the three-day lab there will be a five-day scratch development from 2 to 6 November at mac birmingham. This will be an opportunity for you to develop ideas from the course and actively turn them in to a reality using the skills leant.

The works will be presented professionally on the final day of the scratch week in the mac birmingham theatre to a small, friendly audience of friends, promoters and experienced professionals within the sector who will provide feedback on the work in a constructive and informative manor.

As a legacy to this project, you will be supported to continue professional development together as a newly formed group.

The scratch week is for a limited number of people and is subject to a second application process (separate to Ideas Tap). It will be open to the winners of this brief.

The brief closes on Monday 21 October at 5pm and is open to IdeasTap members aged 18 to 30. If you have any technical queries, please visit our Help Centre. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.
