One KX is giving 10 IdeasTap members the chance to attend a three-day illustration course inspired by the Comics: Unmasked exhibition at the British Library.
You’ll work with professional illustrators and artists to create a set of characters, and a comic/graphic novel inspired by the exhibition. You’ll go on a trip to the exhibition, meet curators and other illustrators who will be on hand to help you improve your skills.
One KX is looking for a group of enthusiastic people with an existing knowledge of comic books and illustration experience that are looking to get professional advice about the history of comics and be willing to have their work produced at the end of the course.
There will be a mixture of one-to-one sessions and group advice, and at the end of the day you’ll get to take away a printed version of your work.
Sessions will take place from Monday 11 August 2014 until Wednesday 13 August 2014, 9am until 5pm and will be based at One KX and the British Library.
Judges are looking for people with prior illustration skills that are interested in getting advice on techniques and who are willing to work in a team to produce a publication.

Comics Unmasked
Comics Unmasked is the UK’s largest ever exhibition of mainstream and underground comics, showcasing works that uncompromisingly address politics, gender, violence, sexuality and altered states. It explores the full anarchic range of the medium with works that challenge categorisation, preconceptions and the status quo, alongside original scripts, preparatory sketches and final artwork that demystify the creative process.

This brief closes on Friday 1 August 2014 at 5pm BST and is open to IdeasTap members aged 16 to 25. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.
