Description

After two years of running its Edinburgh Young Critics' Scheme, A Younger Theatre is now looking for an assigning editor to co-ordinate this year's budding press pack.

Six young critics have been chosen to receive free travel, free accommodation, a small fee and expert mentoring as part of the Edinburgh Young Critics Scheme. Your job will be to co-ordinate AYT's reviewing team in Edinburgh, which will include the six winners, plus any regular AYT reviewers who make their own way to Edinburgh.

The role will include:

  • Helping the managing editor to shape our editorial coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe.
  • Scheduling and organising the shows we are invited to review.
  • Allocating reviewers to shows.
  • Uploading reviews and images as they are filed, and chasing late reviews.
  • Ensuring that the AYT flat is treated properly.
  • Maintaining relationships with media partners.
  • Being the main AYT contact for press officers, PRs, reviewers and companies during the Fringe.

To be in with a chance of winning this brief, you should…

  • Be available between Friday 25 – Thursday 31July remote work and Friday 1 – Monday 25 August in Edinburgh.
  • Have extremely strong administrative and organisation skills – this is a big and complex job!
  • Recognise that this is primarily an administrative role, assisting in shaping the editorial content of A Younger Theatre during the Edinburgh Fringe.
  • Be mature and responsible, as you will be the first point of call for any problems the young reviewers encounter.
  • Be very diplomatic and able to deal with stressful situations when they arise.

Experience of working at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival would be desirable.

The winner of this brief will receive:

  • Two mentoring sessions with James Hopkirk, editor of IdeasTap.
  • Training and guidance from A Younger Theatre’s managing editor.
  • The chance to see shows as part of the Fringe
  • a fee of £800.
  • Travel expenses from within the UK (train/coach travel only).
  • Your own room in the A Younger Theatre flat for the whole of the festival.
