Description

Are you looking to learn, improve and develop as a dancer, dance theatre and/or performance practitioner?

We’re offering 15 IdeasTap members aged 18-30 the opportunity to attend a three-day residency at mac Birmingham with award-winning choreographer Rosie Kay, to develop their own personal practice, their partnerships and collaborations, their ideas of creative-industry business models and to meet people within the industry.

(Please note that mac accepts applications from all over the UK, however priority will be given to applicants from the West Midlands. The company also works with composers, designers, video artists and musicians, so this opportunity may also be appropriate for these artists.)

Sessions will cover the following topics:

• Finding your subject matter and defining your passion

• Research methods and good practice

• Collaboration – what, who and why?

• Finding the right partners to support your development

• Business models and selling your ideas

Participants must be able to attend all sessions – on 27 February-1 March from 10am-3.30pm at mac Birmingham – plus a feedback and shared learning event on Thursday 7 March 6pm-9.30pm, which will include the sharing of a video blog taken during the residency.

Rosie Kay formed Rosie Kay Dance Company in 2004. The company has toured the UK and International Festivals including Dance Umbrella, Spring Loaded at The Place, Edinburgh Festivals, and two commissions from the International Dance Festival Birmingham (IDFB). Rosie Kay is a former Rayne Foundation Fellow and Bonnie Bird New Choreographer Award recipient, her work '5 SOLDIERS' received the Time Out Critics Choice and is to become an installation at the Herbert Gallery as part of the exhibition Artists Responses to conflict. Currently Rosie Kay Dance Company is touring Nationally with 'There is Hope', a work that explores religion, faith and belief. Rosie Kay Dance Company has been nominated as Best Independent Dance Company by the National Dance Awards, Critics Circle 2012.
