Description

Do you have a passion for cinema and great writing skills? Perfect. How would you like the chance to cover Birds Eye View Film Festival for IdeasMag?

Running from 3 to 10 April, the BEV Film Festival will screen features, eye-opening documentaries, ground-breaking short films, insightful events, panel discussions – and more – at BFI Southbank, Barbican, ICA and Hackney Picturehouse. The theme for year’s festival is Celebrating Arab Women Filmmakers, offering a unique opportunity to experience the rich, diverse and powerful voices of the Arab world’s most inspiring women.

If selected, you’ll get to attend three great events and write a 500-word review to run in our online magazine. Your review will need to be filed to us by 9am on Monday 8 April 2013.

You can choose to cover two events from the following four:

1. BEV’s opening night gala screening of When I Saw You + Director Q&A, Wednesday 3 April 6.20pm BFI Southbank.

A masterful, moving new work by Palestine's first female feature director, following a free-spirited young boy escaping from a refugee camp in Jordan in 1967.

2. DFI Short Film Showcase, Thursday 4 April 8.45pm BFI Southbank.

Showcasing the best new work by up-and-coming filmmakers recently featured at the Doha Tribecca Film Festival, this is a great chance to see the new female talent making waves in the Arab film scene.

3. The Adventures of Prince Achmed, with Live Score by Bushra El-Turk, Friday 5 April 7pm Barbican.

A brilliant new multicultural live score by a rising star composer for this spectacular and pioneering film, the world’s first feature-length animation.

4. In The Shadow Of A Man + Director Q&A, Friday 5 April 6.30pm, BFI Southbank

Intimate and politically explosive, the Egyptian revolution is seen through the eyes of its women.

Plus, you’ll receive two tickets to the festival’s closing night gala screening of Habibi, Wednesday 10 April 6.20pm BFI Southbank (but you don’t need to write about this!)

A sweeping romance based on a classic Arabic story of forbidden love, re-interpreted for modern Palestine in this stylish feature.

To apply, tell us in 100 words why you’d like the chance to cover BEV 2013 and include links to two writing examples in your IdeasTap portfolio. They don’t have to be professionally published articles, they can be reviews or posts from a personal blog. You can use Bitly.com to shorten the link.
