COFILMIC is offering five comedy sketch writers the opportunity to have their work acted out before a live panel of judges who will give feedback on each piece at the COFILMIC Comedy Film Festival. In addition, one lucky winner will go on to have their script made into a short film.
COFILMIC is looking for comedy sketches with a live run time of anything between 30 seconds to two minutes. Your script should be of no more than three pages in length.
The judges of this brief (a team of scriptwriters and script editors) will choose the five shortlisted sketches by Monday 20 October.
Five shortlisted scripts will be performed by COFILMIC’s troupe of comic actors to a live judging panel on 28 October 2014 at the Comedy Store, Manchester as part of the COFILMIC Comedy Film Festival. The five shortlisted members will receive free entry to the festival. One overall winner will be selected on the day to have their work filmed by a local team of independent filmmakers.
To make things extra exciting, COFILMIC will be pulling a random script “out of the hat” on the day and will be asking its actors to improvise the sketch, so make sure you come along on 28 October and see whether yours will be performed as the wild card.
The COFILMIC Comedy festival takes place in Manchester, but any winners who will be travelling from outside of Manchester will receive a travel bursary.
Terms and conditions
- Only one submission per person.
- The script must be a maximum of three pages.
- The judges’ decision will be final, and no alternative prize can be given.
- The film prize will consist of a one-day, single location shoot with a camera operator, and sound recordist, and will be fully edited with credits.
- The film must be completed by July 2015, or the prize will become invalid.
- The COFILMIC Comedy Festival takes place in Manchester, but any winners travelling from outside of Manchester will receive a travel bursary.

This brief closes on Monday 13 October 2014 at 5pm BST and is open to IdeasTap members based in the UK aged 16 and over. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.
