What you win

The Southbank Centre is inviting Ideas Tap members (individuals, or groups of up to four) to create an eye-catching window display for the Christmas period (1 November to 31 December) in its flagship shop on Festival Terrace.

Judging

IdeasTap, Adam Thow (Head of Retail & Buying, Southbank Centre), Katherine Walsh (Buyer and Merchandise Manager, Southbank Centre)

The judges are looking for an original and fun idea that shows an understanding of the site and shop and that will get the shop, and the winner, some real attention. They want people to stop and Instagram/tweet/Facebook a picture of the window (and come in and shop!).

Description

It’s never too early to think about Christmas. In fact, have you ever dreamed about creating your very own Christmas shop window? Yes? Well dream no more…

The Southbank Centre is inviting IdeasTap members to create an eye-catching window display for the Christmas period (1 November to 31 December) in its flagship shop on Festival Terrace.

Situated beside the Royal Festival Hall in the bustling Southbank Centre the winning store window will be seen by a potential audience of two million people over the two-month period it’s installed.

The Southbank Centre is looking for a bright, eye-catching, unusual, fun, original and modern Christmas window that will stop visitors in their tracks.

Interested? Well, there are a few things you should know:

  • The working area of the window in total measures: 2.8 metres high by a total width of approx. 7.3 metres
  • You will receive a £300 budget for materials
  • The display cannot obscure display fixtures or come more than a metre deep from the window
  • Thematically, a nod to the season would be nice, but it doesn’t have to be traditional or conventional – but, please, no religious iconography or Santa Clauses
  • All sorts of goods will be displayed in the window along with the winning work. Everything from £3 sparkly baubles to homeware, jewellery and £300 prints. With this in mind the proposed design should not be too age-specific
  • The winner will have to be aware that the design needs to allow full view into most of the window

We strongly recommend that you take a good look around the store, and Southbank Centre, to familiarise yourself with the customers, potential customers and look and feel of the site and the shop.

This brief is open to individuals or groups of up to four people and the winner will be credited in signage in the window for the duration of the display. Southbank Centre staff will be on hand to guide, help to install and will give you access to a professional visual merchandiser for a day to help your vision become a reality.

This brief closes on Wednesday 31 July at 5pm and is open to IdeasTap members aged 18 and over. If you have any technical queries, please visit our Help Centre. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.
