Description

Sky Arts is offering five young artists £30,000 each to fund their work for a full year as part of the Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund – in association with IdeasTap. We’ve just announced the two winners of round one, and now we’re on the lookout for three more talented artists to fund.

Sky Arts recognises that there’s an incredible amount of young talent in the arts today, but finding a way to get your work made is an ever-present challenge. The Futures Fund is designed to help bridge the gap between formal education and becoming a working artist.

Whether you want to direct a piece of theatre, choreograph a new dance piece, write a novel, record an album, create a sculpture or produce a live art performance, Sky Arts will give you the time and money to make it happen. We’ll also pair you with a mentor from Sky to help you develop your networks, skills and knowledge in the arts and the commercial sector.

The Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund is open to individual artists working in visual art, theatre, performance art, film, music, dance or literature.

To apply, you must be an IdeasTap member aged 18-30 on the closing date, 24 February 2012, and either be a citizen of the UK or Ireland or have been resident in the UK or Ireland for the last five years. Either way, you must currently be living in the UK or Ireland to apply. It’s free to become an IdeasTap member and just takes a few minutes – sign up here.

Tell us how the Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund bursary can help take your work to the next level and you could be in with the chance of receiving one of three £30,000 bursaries, as well as an opportunity to showcase your work on Sky Arts – be it on TV, online or on demand.

Three winners will be selected during this round of funding.

The Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund is part of the Sky Arts Ignition Series, which seeks to collaborate with six arts organisations over the next three years in the creation of brand new works, and further expanding Sky’s support of the arts in the UK and Ireland.

  • Regarding embedding media:

on vimeo, the 'new embed code' that uses 'iframe' is not accepted by Ideastap but the 'old embed code' that uses 'object' is accepted.

So check what type of embed code your platform (soundcloud or other) makes you copy, and if it starts with 'iframe', see if there's any way to get a 'object' version. It solved the problem for me.

    Good luck!

  • Hi Joe,
I've spent all day trying to upload my soundcloud links for my portfolio for the SkyArts fund. Although I am pasting in the embed code, the site keeps telling me that it is a code that is not recognised as Soundcloud-which it is. I cant use Houndbite because my songs are larger than 8MB. Please advice asap? Thanks!

  • Hello,
similar question as Sophie's: my project is a short film. Should I upload the synopsis in my portfolio, or should I only upload past completed works of video art that are completely separate from my project?
    Thanks for your answer!

  • Hi there,

I have already written a script. However, the project would be to make and launch the script and idea. Would this still count as a new project? Thanks, Sophie

  • Hi all,

Alex - This fund is also designed to support you with your living costs. You can allocate yourself up to £20,000 to go towards your living expenses, this would leave £10,000 to go on your final project.

Mansi - No, you can work with others on your project.

Lorraine - It's fine for you to receive additional funding although no single organisation can. Also, it's okay to have more than one outcome as long as they are both part of the same line of enquiry.

Roberto - Don't worry, being a few words over is fine.

Will - To be on the safe side, it would be best if you uploaded all your supporting material before the deadline.

Jon - As long as you are aged 18 to 30 on 24 February 2012 then you can apply.

Jennifer - It's fine to continue a line of enquiry that you've already started. However, you need to get across the idea in your application form that this is a new, standalone project.

Paul - Yes, your idea sounds eligible.

Kira - You just need to provide contact details for one referee.

Madaleine - We'll email them over to you...

    Joe
