Would you like to develop your creativity and become a better performer? Well, duh!
We’re giving 30 members the chance to attend three sessions with 5 Rhythms teacher Neda Nenadic. 5 Rhythms is a movement mediation practice, useful for any performer looking to devise work physically, include elements of movement in their performance, or simply to tune their body between projects. Read more about 5 Rhythms in our interview with Neda.
No previous knowledge or experience of 5 Rhythms is required. The sessions are designed to give you a good grounding in the practice, leaving you with a tool to use whenever and however you might need it.
To apply, just tell us in 100 words why you would benefit from learning 5 Rhythms. But first, please ensure that if selected you can attend all three sessions!
Session one Wednesday 28 November 4 to 7pm
BODY IN FLOW: Introduction to each Rhythm
We will explore movement in the body through each Rhythm, gradually opening and closing each body part from head to toe.
• Listening to what is moving and what is stagnant.
• Finding inspiration to move the stagnant, asleep parts into the flow of movement.
• Finding the dance of inertia, tiredness, boredom, stress, mental chatter, confusion and clarity.
• Using the breath to inspire the body into the movement.
• Finding a way to keep moving, setting the body into continuous flow of movement.
Session two Thursday 6 December 4 to 7pm
EMBODIED PRESENCE: What do we mean by presence?
We will drop into the body deeper by listening to what is true, what is present and by following what is real into movement and dance.
• Being present with oneself and bringing that into the dance and into connection with another.
• Exploring three levels of relationship: alone, other and the group.
• Including and extending the awareness into the physical space around us.
• Respecting the inner and outer boundaries.
Session three Wednesday 12 December 4 to 7pm
EMOTIONAL AUTHENTICITY: Am I free to dance the way I feel?
• Freedom to dance as I am.
• The ability to dance what is true. Freedom to dance as we are, not to preform to a teacher’s theme or instruction.
• Am I free to dance the truth that is inside me? Am I free to express giving myself deeper permission, even when I am not pleasing my partner or the teacher?
• No one can dance your dance but you; no one can express your truth but you!
