Do you want to expand your artistic collaborations and learn from some of the UK’s leading artists? Do you have a connection to east London – because you live, work or want to work there?
Street Stories: Dance Collaborations is an East London Dance and Royal Opera House artistic development programme for emerging artists of all disciplines, aged 18 to 25, who are interested in dance. Applicants can be choreographers, lighting designers, costume designers, set designers, composers, music producers, filmmakers, directors, visual animators, dramaturgs and digital artists – and must have a track record and be able to demonstrate a passion for collaborating with dance.
*From 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Friday 18 January, judges Emma (East London Dance) and Anthony (Royal Opera House), will be online to to answer any questions you may have about the brief and the application process.*
Successful applicants will be:
• Open to new ideas and new ways of working
• Good communicators, able to work well with others
• Reflective and able to evaluate yours and others practice
Shortlisted members will be invited to a short interview on Wednesday 13 or Thursday 14 February at Stratford Circus or the Royal Opera House. If successful, they will be invited to an informal dinner to meet the full team on Wednesday 6 March.
The programme will be delivered in three parts (before applying, please make sure you’re available to attend all dates):
• Tuesday 2-Saturday 6 April: a week of inspirational and creative workshops led by renowned artists, including Lloyd Newson (Artistic Director, DV8), Kate Prince (ZooNation), DJ Walde (Music Producer) Will Tuckett and Liam Scarlett (Royal Ballet Artists in residence) and Alex Whitley (Royal Ballet Affiliate Choreographer and Sadler's Wells New Wave Associate).
• Saturday 11-Sunday 12 May: this weekend will establish collaborative partnerships within the group to start researching and developing ideas with dance at their heart.
• Monday 15-Friday 19 July: this week will offer intensive creation time to develop collaborative partnerships and create short pieces for informal sharing.
The programme will be led by Kerry Nicholls and a team of artistic advisors will be available throughout for guidance and support. All activity will take place at East London Dance’s home, Stratford Circus, and at the Royal Opera House.
At the end of this programme, an artistic team will be selected from the emerging artists and awarded a major new commission to lead and create the next Street Stories project – a large youth project to be performed at the Linbury Theatre Studio (Royal Opera House) and Stratford Circus.
