Description

Are you an emerging theatre artist with an idea that needs a kick-start? Then Show Slam is for you.

In partnership with London's legendary Roundhouse, we’re looking for six theatre artists/companies to present up to 20 minutes of new work to a live audience and a panel of industry judges: Nicola Thorold (Roundhouse Executive Producer), Polarbear (spoken word/theatre artist) and Scottee (Performer/Director/Writer).

One will be selected to produce a full-length piece for a three-night run at the Roundhouse Studio Theatre in February 2013, as part of a Roundhouse artist development package.

There will be two showcase events – on Sunday 11 and Sunday 18 November at 7.30pm – so make sure you can attend either before applying.

This brief closes on Friday 28 September at 5pm and is open to IdeasTap members based in the UK aged 16-25. If you have any technical queries, please visit the help centre. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances, including technical issues – so make sure you don’t leave your application to the last minute.

  • As with my Innovators pitch, I once again could not attach my group to my pitch. It does not appear on the list of groups to attach. I have submitted the pitch regardless as the deadline is approaching but I was hoping there would be something I could do about this? Thanks.

  • Hi,

Luke - Yes, all ideas are welcome.

There need to be no large props or scenery and with a very quick get-in.

You can put a link to the company website but the 100 words is for your idea.

Isley - You only need to be able to attend one event - if you have a preference, please mention this when you apply.

    That should be fine.

  • Great brief! Just wondered, when it says we need to be free for either night, does that mean we have to be able to attend both or can we specify which date we'd prefer? If the cast can make both dates but the writer can't, is that unacceptable?

  • Hi there. Just a few quick questions...

    - Is it Ok to do an original adaptation (of an out of copyright text)?

    - When you say a minimal set-up - how minimal? Would would set-up time be? Would there be storage space (we wouldn’t need much)?

    - Can we include a company portfolio in our application, or should we try and include that in the 100 words? If so, can we attach a link?

    Cheers,

    Luke

  • Hi,

Tanya - There will be a small budget for development, plus a box office split for the two-night run.

Freya - There will be tech support but the Roundhouse will require a minimal set-up for the showcase event. There will be a production meeting beforehand.

Katharine - The dates in February will be confirmed closer to the time.

Lesley - It needs to be work which has not been presented as a full-length piece.

  • Hello,
Would it be possible to get some more information on what Roundhouse Artist development package includes (ie will there be a budget to produce the full length piece?)

Secondly I was wondering what the production set up would be like for the showcase events i.e How will the 6 artists/companies be observed? Will there be tech support available?

    Thank you

  • Hi there,

I was wondering if by "new work" you mean original work, or work that has never previously been performed? Can a piece of new writing that has been performed by an amateur company (at the Edinburgh Fringe for example) still be considered? Thanks

  • Hi can I ask if there is a budget available for the full length piece?

  • Hi Ryan,

As long as the majority of your group are aged 16 to 25 then that will be fine.
