Calling all imaginative festival-loving actors!
How would you like to perform your own Bollywood-inspired character at this year’s Bestival, with support from leading performing arts company Nutkhut?
Bestival is one of the UK’s biggest and best-loved festivals. At the heart of the festival is the mighty “Bollywood” venue: a sprawling tent with eclectic, vibrant, glittering, Indian decor. This Bestival institution, the brainchild of promoter Josie da Bank, each year hosts dance parties featuring world DJs programmed by Rob da Bank. Outside the venue is a towering Indian temple, with daybeds and parasols, plus a brand new Bollywood Bus, complete with a bar and seating area.
We are looking for four highly skilled actors to create their own Bollywood-inspired characters to liven up the Bollywood Bus and surrounding Bollywood area. Your characters will interact with each other and engage the audience, using improvisation and immersive theatre techniques. They will capture the colourful, hedonistic and playful atmosphere of Bollywood, surprising those who they encounter.
You will perform for five hours a day from 7 to 9 September 2012. In return you will receive a festival pass, a £100 contribution to your travel costs and free meals throughout the festival.
We welcome applications from groups of up to four people or from individuals who we will match with characters from other applicants. We will select characters who we think will be well received by the Bestival audience and who will work well as a group and individually.
Nutkhut’s artistic director will lead a one-day improvisation and character workshop at IdeasTap’s offices in the week commencing 24 August, which you will be required to attend. You will also need to be on site for rehearsals from 5 Sept (dates TBC).
To apply, tell us in 100 words why you think that you are the right person to join the Bollywood Bus this year and fill out the application form supplied, including links to a video of you performing your character and your CV.
