Southbank Centre is pleased to announce the third of their ‘This Is Not A Pop-Up’ concessions at the Hayward Gallery shop. This Is Not A Pop-Up was launched in September 2011, created to showcase the work of some of today’s most exciting designers.
From 17 May – 3 June Zombie Collective will make the most of the riverside location to present ‘Fathoms Deep’, taking over the space with a nautical themed spectacular.
With backing from IdeasTap, an open call to illustrators & designers for nautical work was made in early 2012 and Zombie Collective selected nine up and coming artists to exhibit. ‘Fathoms Deep’ brings together new work from Zombie alongside new talent Anthony Peters, Chryso Haralambous, Calm & Collected, Jason Munro, El Famoso, Alan Dalby, Laura Bird, Patrick Schmidt & Nick Hayes.
The collection includes prints, cards, deck chairs and all sorts of sea-faring paraphernalia that will sell alongside the Collectives existing quirky and unique gifts. There will be a diverse range of products ranging from little collectibles for under a pound up to limited edition work at £150.
For the launch evening (17th May by invitation) El Famoso will be on hand illustrating their own large scale seaside attraction, music will be provided by skiffle band The Severed Limb and there will be temporary nautical tattoos and pin badge making.
There will be a selection of water inspired workshops with Zombie Collective for budding artists (age 6+) every weekend of the residency. Details and tickets for these events will be available on Southbank Centre‘s website from early May.
May 19- X Marks the Spot- Typographic treasure map making
May 26- Barnacled Beasts- create your own creature of the deep
June 2- The Mini Armada- Build your own mini boat and deck it with a custom flag
In addition to the workshops, every Saturday in the shop there will be a selection of things to do for all ages. The Bowyer Press will be showing how to letterpress your own cards, there will be custom maritime badge making and you can get yourself kitted out with temporary nautical tattoos created especially for Fathoms Deep “' We can’t wait to transform the Hayward Gallery shop into a Pacific wonderland. We'll be selling everything sea inspired from deck chairs to illustrated nautical prints and the three workshops are sure to get you inspired by the vast, wonderful ocean.” Zombie Collective
