Are you in the process of planning or making a documentary? Need help developing your project?

This intensive two-day doc lab delves into techniques of creating an engaging narrative structure in documentary films. It explores elements of character development, emotional pull, visual experimentation and overlapping of style and genre. Over the two days, the lab offers a series of seminars, project centred discussions and one to one development meetings.

The lab is aimed at filmmakers with a feature documentary project. While projects at any stage of development will be considered, a specific treatment (no more than 1.500 words) will need to be produced as a discussion document for the workshops and feedback sessions.

Workshop dates: 21st and 22nd March 2015

Tutor Profile:

Ulrike Kubatta is a London based award winning director/producer and is currently in advanced pre-production of her second feature documentary “Every Boy Wants A Toy Gun”. The film is co-produced by Andre Singer (Spring Films) and Joram Ten Brink (DocWest), whose most recent credits include “The Act of Killing” and “Night Will Fall”.

Her previous feature documentary “She Should Have Gone To The Moon”, was funded with a major grant from the Arts Council England and executive produced by Alan Fountain. The film has been highly successful, meeting with critical acclaim, enjoying an extended run on the festival and independent cinema circuit and winning a number of awards.

Kubatta is the founder of Showdown Films, which produces independent films and offers creative retreats for filmmakers. She also leads the BA in Practical Filmmaking at the Central Film School London.
