Set designer Tom Piper talks about working at the RSC and the rewards of his job...

Tom Piper is an extremely busy and successful set designer. He trained at the Slade School of Art after graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge.

He is an associate designer at The RSC and has designed for everyone from the Theatre Royal Haymarket to the Donmar. He won the London Fringe Best Design Award twice, as well as an Olivier for his work on The RSC's The Histories.

Here he talks about how to build a career in a tough sector and explains how he first got started - working for Sam Mendes at university, with whom he recently collaborated on The Old Vic's Bridge Project.
