Our new portfolios

We've made some pretty major improvements to how your portfolios work. Find out how you can get the most out of them here

As ever on IdeasTap, it’s all about your work.

We’re proud of our brand spanking new site because it’s going to do so much more for you.

In particular, we’ve put a lot of work into our new portfolios. They look pretty slick, they're simple to use and make sharing your content quick and easy.

Sets

We’ve tried to factor in everyone’s needs, so hopefully they’re as useful for actors or writers as they are for photographers or filmmakers. Whether you’re uploading work created by you (images, videos, text or audio), or about you (reviews, flyers, publicity photos, performance footage etc), you can organise your work into “sets”.

We like the idea of sets because we’re hoping you’ll want to send your beautiful new portfolios out to potential employers and collaborators. Sets make that easier.

They mean you can separate your work into projects and tell stories with your work. For example, if you work in lots of different fields, you could organise your sets by what you do – so one set for your acting work, another for your writing and one for your photography, for example.

Equally, you could create a set for every new project you work on, with each set effectively forming a narrative. Others may wish to organise their portfolio thematically – it’s up to you.

Presentation view

Once you’ve added your work you can change the order of the items within each set, and re-order the sets themselves. When you’ve got it all looking the way you want, you can then send out a link to the Presentation View of your portfolio. This view strips away all the unnecessary detail of your profile and puts your work centre stage.

In this view you can also browse through other people’s work (and other people can find yours) by following the “Next similar portfolio” link. Have a trawl – there’s some fantastic work out there.

Liking

When people like what they see, they can “Like” your work (same as on Facebook), giving you an idea of what’s popular. It’s also nice to see how many people have been checking out your portfolio, and that’s where the View Count comes in - you can find this on the main portfolio page within your profile.

Ultimately, the best way to understand the new portfolios is to play with them.

And if you think yours is looking pretty damn good, then why not enter our Portfolio Brief? We’re looking for the members who are really making the most of the new features. The winner will get £500 and three runners up will get £100. Find out how to apply…
