Ideas Fund Innovators: The Winners

Ideas Fund Innovators: The Winners

By The IdeasTap Team 24/04/12

It is almost impossible to whittle nearly 200 applications down to just 10 winners, but such is the IdeasTap lot. So, it is our absolute pleasure to announce the 10 fantastic creative projects have won £1,000 cash injections from Ideas Fund Innovators…

Imogen Eveson applied with The Painted House: an area in the Faraway Forest at Latitude Festival that showcases her creativity and that of fashion set designer Samara Tompsett. The interactive installation, based on the idea of an abandoned Versailles, will be accompanied by a series of fashion workshops, talks and Q&As.

The Rugged Places by Anne-Marie Atkinson is a photographic documentary series that engages isolated rural communities with contemporary art. Working with schools, community groups and families, teenagers’ experiences are considered alongside the wider cultural concerns of rural environments, such as lack of services and an ageing population. The project will culminate with a photobook and touring exhibition.

Repeat Rewind Rephrase by Natalie Marr is a programme of events that explores the different degrees to which creative practitioners engage with the body of art that has come before, from sampling, quoting and referencing to re-staging and re-interpreting.

All at Sea by Richy Carey is an interdisciplinary project, bringing together music, animation, literature and documentary filmmaking. The overarching story is of a sailor setting out on his first adventure, dreaming of finding fame and fortune but discovering beauty and accomplishment in the journey itself.

Theorize & Ears by Britt Wray is an online radio show, podcast and event that brings cultural theory out of its stuffy academic tomes, and into the streets. Britain’s most prominent critical thinkers will be interviewed about their stance on issues we’re facing in the 21st century.

Freyja Sewell applied with The Body is a Design Machine on behalf of the 3D Design collective, Studio SUDI, who are trying to create designs that they can mass manufacture. They will spend the money on an interactive performance/exhibition of their research and products shown during London Design Festival.

The Altitude Brothers by Daniel Foxsmith is the second piece by Snuff Box Theatre. Set within the frame of the space race of the 1960s, The Altitude Brothers is a soulful tale that incorporates three wannabe astronauts, a goldfish bowl and a shuttle-load of music played live on mandolins, accordions and typewriters.

James Baker and Bootworks Theatre applied with Get Lost, an invitation to the people of Chichester to explore new parts of their city. James has recently bought a Wrigley’s Extra chewing gum vending machine, cleaned it up, stripped it back and adapted it to vend miniature books the size of Wrigley’s Extra. These artist books will be full of tasks that encourage an alternative engagement with the city.

Two Death Web Series by Matt Orton is a project that seeks to create a melting pot for the creative talent on IdeasTap. With each episode directed and written by a new combination of creatives, overseen by a production team, it will hopefully create a totally unique example of what is achievable through IdeasTap.

Retrospective Projections by Helen Stead is inspired by the north of England and Salford in particular. Helen intends to collect photographs from local people and project these images back into the original locations they were taken, reflecting on times gone by and helping the community to trace their own history.
