IdeasTap at Edinburgh
IdeasTap is heading to Edinburgh - find out where we'll be over the coming month...
IdeasTap is heading to Edinburgh. It’s a busy time for us as we have not one but two Ideas Fund Edinburgh winners presenting their shows.
Tortoise In A Nutshell won the first prize of £20,000 for their immersive puppetry show The Last Miner. Set in an underground mine shaft, the company will be performing at Hill Street Theatre, Venue 41, 19 Hill Street, Edinburgh from 5th to 9th, 11th to 16th, 18th to 23rd, 25th to 30th August from 3 to 3.45pm daily. Tickets are just £5 to 7.
Second place was taken by HighTide, a Suffolk-based producing company, who received £10,000 (with £750 spent on mentoring). Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig’s new play Lidless is an intense look at the relationship between a prisoner and a guard in an Guantanamo prison cell. It will be shown at Venue 300, Underbelly’s Pasture from 5th to 30th (barring 17th) August at 12.15pm. Tickets are £12.50 and £10.
HighTide is also curating its own Arts Club. They sourced IdeasTap members like Made In China to perform work on the theme of “inFRINGEment: Impressions on Oppression” on 13 August from 8pm, in an evening that will both entertain and help launch IdeasTap’s next Ideas Fund. The location is Fringe Central, Appleton Tower, Crichton Street, Edinburgh and you can gain free entry with any festival pass.
IdeasTap also funded three projects through our Innovators Fund, which awarded each group £1,000 to help develop their theatre-related projects.
Unique Voice’s For The Love Of Robert, about four women taking on the IRA in search of justice for their murdered brother, is being performed at The Greenside Theatre, Royal Terrace from 16th to 21st August at 3.50pm.
Anything Bloody Goes’ Your Dream Wedding, where you get your very own bridal salon appointment, is at Assembly @ George Street from 6th to 30th August at 3pm.
Finally, our funding has helped Theatre Ninjas develop an exciting iPhone application and partner website that will allow registered directors, producers and venues to offer last-minute tickets for free at the Edinburgh Fringe. Check it out here.
