Editor's Brief: Stuffed winners

By Joe IdeasTap 27/01/11

The judges have had their say and so here are the winners of December's Editor's Brief...

For last month’s Editor’s Brief, we asked you to submit your ideas on the theme of “Stuffed”. Here are the lucky winners…

Winner: The Beast by Stella McDonald

We loved Stella’s animation. A boy is awoken in the night by one of the beasts from his grandfather's taxidermy collection – it’s alive! Instead of gobbling his innards, he takes him on a thrilling adventure. Reminiscent of those unnerving cartoons that’d be on kids TV on Christmas morning if you woke up too early.

Runner-up: STUFFED by Nick Scott

Beautifully described as the “meat truck”, in Nick’s abstract picture we can make out fingers, an arm and a torso; it’s probably best not to wonder what other fleshy shapes are in there. There’s very much a ‘70s horror feel going on here. Body parts stuffed into a removal van like food in a stomach. Yum.

Runner-up: Abandoning the Stuffed Underground by Owen Davey

Weary of the city, our Owen ventures out from Whitechapel, leaving behind the London of winter 2010 (banks, police, heavy snow) and out into the wonderland of the sticks (or Kenwood House). Those who’ve seen Owen’s work before will be at home with his surrealist observations. Those who haven’t, you’re in for a treat.
