Filming the Race Across America: the winner

Filming the Race Across America: the winner

By Cathy IdeasTap 09/06/11

Last month, we ran a competition to find one talented IdeasTap filmmaker who would follow a team of cyclists taking part in the gruelling Race Across America.

We’re delighted to announce that Sophie Brooks will be taking up the winner’s place behind the camera…

Four intrepid cyclists – Ollie, Anna, Alex and Tim, who collectively make up the RAAM Roses – will pedal the width of America as part of this annual race, which starts on 18 June. They’re hoping to cycle the epic 3,000 miles and break the current world record to raise money for IdeasTap and children’s cancer charity, the Joe Glover Trust

Not surprisingly, we felt their superhuman efforts deserved to be captured on film.

Black Bull Films, the production company behind all of IdeasTap’s video interviews, will document RAAM Roses’ progress throughout their adventure. They’ll be filming around the clock and so it was crucial to find a filmmaker with the right enthusiasm and experience. Leo DeHaan, who judged all of the applications, felt that Sophie deserved to win, “for her cool-headed composure, experience in the field, professional attitude and communication skills.”

Sophie’s all set to fly out to the US at the end of this week. “I’m really happy to be involved in such a unique experience and I’m excited about supporting Leo, who has a very strong vision of an interesting and heartfelt documentary,” she explains. “I can’t wait to start filming and see what stories evolve. Good luck to the riders!”
