NYT in China

Here's why you need to drop everything and apply to go to China with NYT...

NYT want to send you to China for seven weeks. This is your chance to perform in five Chinese cities, in a show created by NYT’s Artistic Director Paul Roseby. It’s the chance of a lifetime.

They’re looking for seven to 10 performers, from musicians to gymnasts, actors and dancers.

It’s not the first time we’ve sent IdeasTap members overseas. There was the trip to Dubai with NYT to perform at the FIFA Club World Cup and Living the Dream, when members went to Shanghai to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Shanghai World Expo.

And, of course, not forgetting Old Vic New Voices US/UK Exchange which is open now.

If you need convincing further, here are a few words from NYT member Tom Chapman on why you should apply for NYT in China NOW. Tom travelled to Guangzhou in China in December to perform with NYT for their corporate partner MG Motors and went to Shanghai for Living the Dream.

“The most valuable thing I learned as a performer for both trips was the ability to convey a narrative to an audience whose language I do not speak. The challenge is communicating effectively without overdoing it, or seeming clichéd. It’s an invaluable skill to learn and will make you a better actor when you return”.

Of course, it’s not all work and no play, as Tom explained:

“It was so amazing being surrounded by such talent. One day in Shanghai our performance was cancelled due to a rainstorm. We were so hyped that we all just ran about it the rain singing and dancing, it sounds mental but it was a magical moment”.

Here's Paul Roseby talking about working in China on BBC China.
