Members Round-up: Animators

By hattie- IdeasTap 09/02/11

This month, it's all about you animators out there...

On Monday we will launch Ideas Fund Shorts again, which means we’ll be giving away £5,000 to eight five-minute films. Last year’s winners featured a lot of strong animation, so in this month’s members round-up I thought I’d highlight my favorite animators on the site at the moment…

Vida Vega

Vida recently graduated from UCA Farnham. She is signed to Film Club Productions, which was founded by award-winning animation director-turned-producer Sue Loughlin. Vida’s graduation film and first commissioned short mi'au, myau was nominated in the 2010 British Animation Awards.

Anne Wilkins

Anne is a bit of an IdeasTap stalwart. She’s done a Job of the Week, and recently collaborated with another member Ronan Glynn on his documentary Behind the Light, about the dying art of lighthouse keeping.  Ronan won £5,000 to make Behind the Light in Ideas Fund Shorts last year. Here’s one of Anne’s films, it’s called Sun in the Night Time:

Yui Hamagashira

I absolutely love Yui’s work; it’s just the right side of creepy. Gloves bleeding glasses? You betcha! Heads getting chopped off and turning into marbles? Why not! Last year she got a place at the Royal College of Art, but had to dip out due to financial restrictions. We wish her the best of luck in 2011.

Cindy Derby

Apart from having a wonderful name, Cindy is also a fantastic animator. Her new animation Edward’s House of String was recently shown at The Traverse theatre in Scotland as part of the Manipulate Visual Theatre Festival (alongside previous Edinburgh Fund-winning project The Last Miner).

Ruth Barrett

I love Ruth’s music video for The Miserable Rich, Let Me Fade. Drunk, fighting squirrels – what’s not to love? I’d hazard a guess that Ruth was a fan of the Wombles as a child.
