New year, new hopes and dreams, but when the clock strikes midnight, what have we got to look forward to?
New year, new hopes and dreams. We've all
got great expectations for 2010, but when the clock strikes midnight, what have
we got to look forward to?
It's the end of a year that's seen the word
recession become an excuse for funding cuts and frugality, a year where
politician's greed was laid bare, a year in which swine flu failed to bring
about the a-pork-alypse, and of course, we said goodbye to Jacko and hello to Obama.
But behind the headlines 2009 has been a good year in the arts, with record
ticket sales at the Edinburgh Fringe and one of the strongest Cannes film
festivals in years.
Some of you have had a year the rest of us
can only dream of, but as we leave the noughties behind and head into 2010,
others will be hoping this is the year that your expectations pay off.
To celebrate the winners from 2009 and look
ahead to the break through artists worth watching in 2010 we'll speak to the people
in the know and ask them about the year that was and the next 12 months. We'll
hear from those who've made it, and find out who's poised to emerge into the
limelight in the coming months. We'll hear from the people who work with
the up and coming, and delve into
our 16,000 members to reveal the wealth of talent who share IdeasTap with you.
Plus, in this month's Editor's brief, we
want to see your work around the theme of 'Going Up'. The best entry gets £300
and the artist becomes part of our alumni.

Watch our interview with poet Jack Stannard including an exclusive preview of his recent poem Camden Chinese.
At just seventeen Jack was hand-picked by established performance poet Luke Wright to perform a late slot at Latitude 2009. We predict massive things in 2010 for this young lyricist. Read the full blurb here in The Knowledge>>
