Dance Wembley: Video

Two-hundred-and-thirty IdeasTap members took part in Dance Wembley – a choreographed dance performance at the opening of the UEFA Champions League Final. See how they got on in our exclusive video…

There were 230 of them, and 300 million people watched them dance.

A warm May evening. The centre circle of Wembley. The Champions League final. Barcelona versus Man Utd. This was the biggest stage in the world.

After responding to a brief on IdeasTap, our dancing members pulled together and attended three Saturday rehearsals in Regent’s Park. They had a couple of practice sessions on the pitch, and then they were out there, with nowhere to hide, fronting up the most-watched sporting event on British soil.

And it went beautifully. Watch the video we made and you can see that every move melded together like a shoal of fish, a feat of grace that would make Man Utd’s Dimitar Berbatov look like Carlton Palmer. It was the perfect preparation for an epic game of football – it's just a shame that Giggs, Carrick and Hernandez et al discovered they had two left feet, leaving Messi, Villa and Iniesta to swerve, sway and pirouette around the pitch like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire on holiday...

This is what Director of the Opening Ceremony and Creative Director of the Old Vic Tunnels Hamish Jenkinson had to say: "IdeasTap where the obvious choice for me from the moment I won the contact to direct the opening ceremony. I had absolute faith the arts community that IdeasTap have created would be more than up for the challenge of dancing to over 300 million and the dancers did not let me down. They showed incredible attitude as we changed the routine only days before the event. My deepest thanks to all the amazing dancers that took part."
