The 24 Hour Plays is one of the most exciting events in the theatrical calendar. Thirty–eight young creatives, 24 hours, a 1,000-strong audience and enough adrenaline to fell a stampede of horses. And this year, there have been a few exciting new developments. Find out more here….
UPDATE: The 24 Hour Plays is now closed. The shortlist has now been announced for PRODUCERS, DIRECTORS and WRITERS and successful applicants will be informed via email.
The 24 Hour Plays will reopen again next year.
Who can apply:
This year, for the first time, applications are open to people up to the age of 30.
How to apply:
To apply, you will need to visit the brief specific to your discipline.
There is no need to download and upload the application form this year, because you will now complete it online.
Because you will be filling it out online – and therefore won’t be able to save it along the way – you should be aware that for directors and producers there are a few new questions.
What is your opinion of new writing in Britain in the last 10 years?
You will only have eight hours to rehearse and present your production. Please outline the process you will use to get from page to stage.
Explain the role of the producer in up to 30 words.
Old Vic New Voices went to the US in 2009, held an arts festival in 2011, and is going to Edinburgh in 2012.
What should OVNV do in 2013 and why?
The audition process for actors has also changed a little, and now has three stages:
- a monologue-based improvisation group audition (new)
- a monologue audition to a panel (as before)
- a mini version of the project (as before)
The bonding day for all shortlisted applicants is now aimed at honing the specific skills each person will use at the final event. That’s improvisation and physical and vocal technique for the actors, quick decision-making for directors, ingenuity for producers and an understanding of what plays have worked in the past for writers.
