Bootworks Theatre

As a collective, what draws us together is making performance that has its core focus on the personal, intimate and nostalgic. We’re always playing with ideas and potential projects. We work hard to actively diversify and challenge our individual and collective practice.

All our projects (and activity beyond the work with The Black Box) tries to balance artistic innovation (whatever that means!) with accessibility. We're not iconoclasts or paradigm shifters by any means, but we try to make sure each new venture develops our skill base and experience as well as give audiences something interesting and enjoyable. A vague policy for sure, and we admit to it's lack of specificity, but one that is positively in constant flux and shifts according to situation, experience, demand and ultimately; our inclination.

We’re often influenced by film and visual mediums, but consciously draw from a range of media and disciplines and have no fixed ‘method’ or process for making and presenting work.

Synthesising Film & Theatre is an ongoing interest, as is our installation work in Outdoor Arts, but above and around all this is a (simple) commitment to make work that excites and interests us.

All our work is critically underpinned. We all come from academic backgrounds and our commitment to critical rigour and interdisciplinarity is central to our creative practice.
