The Fear Of Breathing - stories from the Syrian revolution

THE FEAR OF BREATHING

As thousands are being murdered, tortured and imprisoned by the Assad regime The Fear of Breathing is a collection of personal accounts from the Syrian revolution. It is desperate cry of people risking there lives to fight for their dignity and freedom, experiencing violent atrocities in silence as the international community turn their backs and the Arab spring becomes last years news.

To find these stories and build this production, we travelled into Syria covertly, circumventing the ban on journalists and restrictions on movement for all internationals. Living in Syria we spoke in secret to the deserting soldiers, Free Syrian Army, wanted activists, and peaceful protesters who have faced tanks and guns with only flags, placards and shouts for freedom. What we heard was shocking, desperate and powerful.

This production results in a didactic mixture of scenes, interviews and stories, that immerses the audience in the heart of the Syrian revolution, the struggle with the Assad regime and a country on the brink of civil war. With no agenda but to speak the truth our aim is to give a platform to those in Syria who's stories are unheard and who are unrepresented in voice. We want to portray what is happening for all parts of society without sensationalising or making judgement, taking in all fears but without masking the terrible violations that are happening. The Fear Of Breathing is controversial and provocative articulating the horrifying realities of other peoples lives and their determination for something better.
