37932585-bb52-40ee-ab87-a167008bc8eaSince being at University I have had the chance to really explore what sort of artist / performer I want to be. I've had such free range on creating my own performances, and explore the different routes I wanted to take. Also I've had a rehearsal space free of charge to use (mostly) whenever I wanted, which is amazing and alomost is impossible to find when in the 'real - world'. The different resources that you have are amazing. I've really appreciated my experience

72e2c43d-fb6c-48dd-a247-a14d013d876cI do agree with what's being said here, and how University is a time for "social, intellectual and artistic development". However, I'm finding it increasingly frustrating that the development and intellectual stimulation I am getting is through my own research not prompted by anything within my BA Theatre Studies course structure. Paying £3,500 (luckily I was the cohort before the increase) doesn't quite seem worth it if the work and experience I'm gaining is off my own motivation, not helped by anyone within the University or course. I do feel saddened that whilst arts education is incredibly important, my experience of it is severely lacking.

8a65ab16-aa51-4428-8cda-a149012658bfSorry Neil, the industry can and does provide a environment for nurturing critical thinkers, analysis and placing arts into a socio-political context. It is a unique learning experience. There are some UK theatres that spearhead the drive to foster artists and cultural leaders that are curious, provocative and are an alternative to an often diluted University education that is driven by targets and earned income. Really welcome a debate.
