I think it depends on the show completely- it seems you have had a few bad experiences but I love site-specific. I like it when the show has something to do with the site we are watching it in. If the show is just there for the sake of it, yes it can difficult for storytelling parts to take precedence as it loses out to people trying to emphasis the space. If you go to a site-specific show that is about the site and what goes on there or the history of it-you may feel different. Interactive elements are the best in site-specific too...not just sitting around watching someone talk at you in a seat in a theatre.
