• I'm aware I'm going to sound absurdly pretentious here, but from a performance philosophy perspective, Peter's idea about the actor's incarnation is really interesting. Those levels of engagement from an actor provoke some really mind-bending debates, and particularly when you consider how it's mirrored by the levels of engagement in the spectator.
  
  But the play isn't just brand new for an actor every night - the performance itself is a brand new genesis, an incarnation of the work, and that's why theatre has the power to be so transformative and regenerative.
  
  Shakespeare is always excellent for demanding that actor, spectator and performance commit themselves fully to this new incarnation, moment by moment, and I suppose that's why performance is such a beautiful art. It's new every time.
