I take it you didn't read the casting call in the Vice article then since it had absolutely nothing to do with The only Way is Dalston? It was a competition for MTV to sponsor a young creatives work and create a brand. If I had that opportunity when I was younger I would have jumped at the chance! It's funny really that the general public can take something like this so seriously from a bunch of idiots like Vice whose articles can be compared to that of the Daily Star. I also believe anyone who takes it seriously and THEN decides to write about it needs to get laid.
